Rezulin Liver Toxicity Symptoms and Diagnosis

Symptoms

Symptoms of liver toxicity due to Rezulin include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite and the appearance of dark urine. Patients with advanced liver toxicity will exhibit signs of jaundice- a yellowing of skin and eyes.

Diagnosis

Patients that are experiencing any of these symptoms and have used Rezulin should contact their physician immediately to begin treatment.

Patients not experiencing these symptoms but using Rezulin should contact their doctor about switching diabetes medications, as Rezulin is no longer available. Additionally, these patients should undergo testing to determine the extent of damage, if any, to their liver function as a result of the medication.

Damage to liver function could require a period of detoxification, if the damage is mild, or a liver transplant, if the damage is severe.
